Arthritis Walk
Thank you for participating in the 2010 Arthritis Walk!
The Arthritis Walk is the signature fundraiser of the Arthritis Foundation. Participants from across the country join together to raise funds in the fight against arthritis. Form a team or join as an individual.
Meet Our Heros
Beth and Christine are sisters living in the Palatine area. They have both been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), Beth 15years ago, Christine newly diagnosed in 2009.
They are both extremely active women who enjoy working out and planning fun times with friends. For both of them, RA has at times severely slowed down their active lifestyles. Beth manages her disease with Remicade and Christine has gotten good results with Humira.
Beth’s greatest challenge is the unexpected flare-up, the pain from which can wreck her social and physical activity plans. Christine’s challenge is to know her limits. Watching her sister manage those unexpected flare-ups is also a challenge. She credits Beth’s positive attitude with getting through those tough and painful flare-ups with grace.
Beth’s biggest triumph is staying positive through the flare-ups and launching her new bakery (Flour Baked Goods and Specialty Cookies) this year with her mother. Christine ran a Turkey Trot 5K for the first time and is excited that recently the pain in her feet is subsiding.
Beth took advantage of the Arthritis Foundation educational programs, free brochures, and loves to receive Arthritis Today magazine “packed full of information.” More than anything she has received from the Arthritis Foundation, giving back through volunteerism is a fulfilling reward. They are honored to be Arthritis Walk Heroes.
Beth and Christine are thrilled to share the Arthritis Walk Hero position together this year. Beth hopes to educate others that arthritis is not simply as an older person’s disease. She is concerned that people do not realize how many children and young adults are affected and how seeking good medical care and taking the right medications can help control the disease. Christine hopes to be an example of how important it is get early detection and to stay positive.
